As reported by Kompas.com foreign and domestic tourists are lining up to take photos and “selfies” of the natural seaside cliffs and formation at Pantai Kelingking at Nusa Penida – a small offshore island in Bali southeast.
The stone formation, thought by many to resemble the shape of a Tyrannosaurus Rex is set against the background of an azure sea.
Such is the popularity of the “photo spot” that people are prepared to wait in line for an hour to get their turn at the Cliffside spot considered to be the best vantage point. Irma Maulidia, a Jakarta tourist told Kompas.com on Saturday, June 22, 2019, that when she arrived at Pantai Kelingking at 10:00 a large line had already formed. After a wait of 20-minutes and on a tight schedule, she abandoned the photo-shoot and moved to a new location. “There were many Asia tourists, and every person would spend around 3-minutes taking a photo,” Irma explained.
Part of the popularity of the Nusa Penida photo stop can be ascribed to its inclusion as #9 on a top-ten list of most beautiful places in Asia featured on CNN Travel and #19 on its worldwide list of beautiful spots.
Bali visitors can secure transport on local boats along Sanur Beach heading for the destination of Banjar Nyuh Port. The approximate cost of a one-way boat transfer is Rp. 75,000.
