Ibiza beach club Café del Mar to launch first Asia outpost in Bali this August

Published on September 7, 2019

Bali’s already got it going on when it comes to beach clubs — sprawling out on a daybed to soak up that vitamin sea with a delicious cocktail in hand has pretty much become synonymous with a stay in the Island of the Gods.

While there’s certainly no shortage of beach clubs here, it’s notable that a new one coming to our island later this autumn is already creating buzz in Bali: the incoming Café del Mar on the Canggu beachfront.

If you’ve been around Canggu recently, then you’ve probably seen the signs announcing their launch, which is slated for early August.

You might have also heard of Café del Mar before — it’s a popular bar in Ibiza, which also spawned a series of chill-out ambient music compilations of the same name. Those wildly popular CDs have been around since the ‘90s.

In case you’re unfamiliar, here’s a little bit of history: Café del Mar was first established in 1980, at Sant Antoni de Portmany on the Spanish island of Ibiza. The name is Spanish for “sea café.” For more than three decades since its opening, Café del Mar has expanded into an international entertainment brand, known for its parties, off-the-beaten-track event locales, and of course – their chill house compilations.

No word yet on the exact date of Café del Mar Bali’s opening, but we’re hearing that it will mark its debut with a launch party in October, with plans to host a big grand opening bash featuring international DJs sometime early next year.

The brand’s Bali location is apparently just one of three new outlets set for an opening in the region, with the other two set for a launch in the Maldives and Bangkok in the coming months. The lifestyle brand has 15 other venues around the globe, including in Sydney, Australia and Mamaia, Romania.

We don’t yet know what an Ibiza experience in Bali will actually be like, but the thought of a collision between two tropical islands, chill music and Mediterranean dishes perched on the sands of Canggu have gotten us pretty intrigued.

Watch this space for more updates as we get ‘em.
