Published on September 19, 2022

According to Kompas.com, Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno stated, “For the 42nd edition of World Tourism Day, Indonesia has received the honor of being named host, with the headquarters for the global celebration to be Bali on September 27, 2022.”

On Monday, August 8, 2022, the tourism minister made the announcement during his weekly online press briefing.

Sandiaga reminded everyone that the theme of World Tourism Day 2022 is “rethinking tourism,” which encourages a re-evaluation of what constitutes quality and sustainable tourism. Meanwhile, Frans Teguh, the Tourism Ministry’s acting deputy for resources and tourism institutions, stated that the theme of “rethinking tourism” needs to be adopted throughout Indonesia. “As hosts (for World Tourism Day), we must agree with other nations that we (all) want to encourage tourism enterprises to develop a people-oriented, quality-oriented, and sustainable tourism model,” he adds.

Bali’s role as the global celebration’s host also entails hosting related events. Panel discussions on “Rethinking Tourism as a Key Element in Recovery” and “The Tourism We Want” will be led by Bali tourism practitioners.
